Becoming a C-licensed skydiver is an exciting next step in one’s journey in this sport. This license opens the doors to many new and exciting opportunities beyond the B-license. Progressing in the sport may be daunting as there’s an overwhelming amount of information to disseminate. We break things down in an understandable format so you can better plan the next phase in your skydiving journey.

Requirements to Earn a C-License

Here is a list of qualifications necessary to earn the C-license under the national organization United States Parachute Association:

General Requirements

  • Must be a current USPA Member
  • Must have earned a B-license
  • Have passed a written exam

Freefall Requirements

  • Have completed 200 jumps
  • Have a minimum of 60 minutes of logged freefall time
  • Have completed in-air turns and barrel rolls
  • Successful completion of fifty formation skydives, or fifty formation freefly skydives, at least ten of which, in either discipline, must involve at least four participants

Canopy Requirements

  • Have landed within 7 feet of a target center on 25 jumps

Privileges of a C-license Holder

Each skydiving license has its own unique set of privileges earned, but the C-license is the most sought after as many people get into skydiving to wingsuit – and this is the gateway license to get you there! Here are set of privileges for this skydiving license:

  • Ability to attend a First Flight Course to jump a wingsuit
  • Ability to use a camera in freefall after a proper briefing
  • Eligible to earn a USPA Instructor Rating (though not a Tandem Instructional rating)

Currency Requirements for C-license Holders

Currency is key for safety, to be mindful and relevant of emergency procedures, and updated on new techniques and technology. Each license has its set of currency requirements, and this is for those with a C-license:

Not Jumped In: 6 months – 1 year * Digital Recurrency Course
* Emergency Procedure Review
* Review Flight Plan & Landing
* Coach Jump
Not Jumped In: 1-3 Years * Full Ground Refresher Course in-person

Cost to Earn a C-license

First – this isn’t an all upfront cost. Each phase in your skydiving career is a pay-as-you-go method. There are oftentimes packages offered for discounted prices, and if you own your own gear, the price significantly decreases. However, this will give you an upfront idea of what it would cost to earn your next skydiving certification (this pricing table is for 150 jumps after you’ve earned your B-license):

Jump Tickets at Ultimate Skydiving Adventures are $25 to 9,000 feet and gear rental is $25/jump. These prices vary from skydiving center to skydiving center. 

If you own your own gear and pack for yourself, the approximate total cost for the C-license is: $3936
If you rent gear and hire a packer, the approximate total cost for the C-license is: $8886
